For learning characters, i've long preferred http://www.nciku.com/

The big advantage is that you can draw any character with your mouse, and it'll look it up for you.  This saves me sooooo much time every day.  There are also plenty of example sentences to help with learning words that use that character, and how they work in context.  I frequently use their example sentences in my Anki flashcards.

Subject: Small Horse Dictionary
I really like this dictionary. It is good to use for looking up Hanzi.
It will show the character, variants, the radical, and automatically gives you a list of frequent compounds. And then there is a link to show all the compounds starting with that character and another link to display all the compounds containing that character. Of course it has pinyin (accented) and English meanings.

The site also has some lists that you can access by clicking on links on the left side. Categories are radicals, HSK, and by frequency. The discussion form link is broken or the forum itself is. That's too bad. Maybe Xiaoma Cidian should link here!

I also like the site because of the pleasant layout and font. I don't know how it looks on Windows though.
