The proposed characters to add has increased by 5. Now it's 196 characters.

All the links above, except for the last one, are no longer working.

This Kanji dictionary site has the list of proposed new characters. At the bottom of the page are the 5 characters that will be dropped. So I guess the new total will be 2136 characters. I would prefer a nice round number.  2100 or 2200 perhaps.

Subject: 新常用漢字
I found an article that says the Daily Use Kanji will be revised next year. The proposal which has been approved is to drop 5 characters from the current list and to add 191 characters for a total of 2131 characters. The plan was approved on January 29th.
